Family, friends, fun, food and flowers for this relaxed wedding at the Ruddington Arms restaurant in Nottinghamshire.
If you think postponing a wedding during lockdown was stressful, spare a thought for Becki & David who were forced to postpone their wedding no less than four times. When the rest of us would be giving up they instead took hold of their plans, ripped them up and started all over again. Megan Wilson, the photographer who captured their fun filled restaurant wedding in Nottingham fills us in on the story.
“Becki and Dave were originally going to get married at a different ‘regular’ wedding venue but because of Covid and having to postpone four times, and their originally venue not being able to accommodate their dates, they cancelled, downsized a bit and booked at the Ruddington Arms Restaurant instead. Their main priorities were having great food, being able to dance and celebrate with their nearest and dearest and making sure they had photographs that captured all of the fun and special moments.”
Becki and David’s wedding photos fell into my lap by chance. Megan was kindly sharing images of flowers by Oakham florist Hiden Floral Design. As soon as I opened the file I was struck by the cosy setting of the tables and the informal, yet detail rich, vibe. I know Becki and David downsized their original plans but whatever they were, I can’t imagine they’d top what the couple finally pulled off at the Ruddington Arms. This really is a picture perfect wedding because it’s wall to wall smiles.
How the couple planned their day is a great example of choosing a venue that gives you all the feels whilst you add your personal touches to make it your own. The Ruddington Arms is a restaurant meaning the cosy seating arrangement creates a real ‘at home’ feel about it with everyone seated at long tables on an eclectic mix of chairs. ‘Bring your own chair and a bottle’ springs to mind; memories of our own fun get togethers where we crammed around the table, chatting and eating for hours!
Clearly much thought has gone into the details but everything feels natural and relaxed. I love the clever use of crates for their table plan. The positioning of a cute ‘Mr & Mrs’ sign to denote the top table, even though there is no formal top table, is brilliant. The atmosphere they created is just perfect and the fun they all had just shines through in the photographs.
Nothing screams ‘wedding’ more than flowers, and flowers are dotted about everywhere in glass vases and silver containers. Notice Becki’s bouquet and the bridesmaids’ bouquets have been displayed behind their table. It’s a savvy decision to use the bouquets as part of your floral display because other than for photographs you’re unlikely to pick them up again after the ceremony so make them earn their keep. A reputable florist will help you work this into your plan rather than have you spend out on extra flowers.
Don’t get me started on the cake. It’s a wonderful towering cheese cake – and for cheese lovers like me it’s oh so perfect. I don’t know who made the cake topper but the addition of the two dogs is a lovely way to make them part of the couple’s day. I wish I had been at this wedding. I could dive into that glorious cheese mountain right now.
Becki wore a beautiful full length ivory gown by Pronovias with detailed cap sleeves and a full length veil. She dressed her bridesmaids in full length emerald green dresses and her flower girl in ivory with a green sash. Dave wore a smart three piece suit with green bow tie which, as I’m always advising, set him apart from his best man’s attire.
The entire wedding looks effortless but you can only get this look when you’re paying close attention to your details and staying true to your theme. This is such a lovely wedding in every sense and regardless of the disappointments Covid threw at the couple and what plans may have gone before, I can’t help but think this day is just perfect in every way.
We wish Becki and David every happiness for the future and hope their new life together proves as full of fun as the day they planned to celebrate it.
