Kate, tell us how the Kate Edmondson Bridal label began
My background is in design and manufacturing having obtained a BA Hons. in Fashion, following a career working within the bridal industry creating bespoke wedding dresses for individual clients. Due to a lack of opportunities to design, I decided to start my own label. Targeted at the more fashion forward bride, our ethos is to create beautiful unique wedding dresses. The cut and fit for our dresses is always at the forefront of our vision.
What is the creation process from concept to aisle?
Every bride is taken through a bespoke journey. From the design sketch to the design development of their gown; the calico process (or mock up version) to the finished piece. Our fabrics have been carefully sourced around the bride’s ideas and design of her wedding dress.
We use the most elegant, high quality fabrics. We want to work with brides to achieve their ultimate vision of themselves on their wedding day. Our dresses are individually cut and fitted for each bride.
Handmade in the UK
All our gowns & pieces are made in- house produced by a team of highly skilled machinist and cutters to ensure everything is made to the highest standard possible.
My inspiration is always sparked by what is going on around me. The recent pandemic has inspired me to look towards understated looks with elements of glamour. Brides are having to postpone their wedding and have smaller gatherings rather than the big dream wedding. Get married now, party later seems to be a growing trend.
How has the Coronavirus pandemic affected trends?
Brides are looking at different options, for example choosing a simple elegant dress for their micro wedding ceremony then opting to have a larger gathering, when it’s safe to do so and a big reveal, more elaborate wedding dress to show to their family and friends.
